and the beat goes on

not sure why I have that song in my head as it's a. old and b. not my thing music wise. I'm also not sure I should admit to liking Natasha Bedingfield, but as her music is on every beauty and cosmetic related advert on tv it's either a love or hate thing really.

We are back in the swing of things with school and gym. It's a bit sad to say that I am quite glad that the boys are back at school, but it has saved my sanity. It must drive them nuts as well being at home all day with boring Mummy and Pip who needs a 2 hour sleep at lunchtime, but I'm sure I am not the only one.

Running wise I'm struggling, but when have I ever done anything else but struggle. Sharon will tell you of the time in 1988 when she ran round the block with me when I was trying to get fit for my RAF medical (I passed medical, but failed Officer interview) when she thought she might have to dial for an ambulance such was my sorry assed state. I was 4 stone lighter then as well. Scarey huh?

I am managing to run for 6min, walk 2, run 5, walk 2, run 5, walk 2, run 2, collapse. I think being so heavy is not helping progression so I am going to stick with run 6, walk 2 three times till I have lost some weight which will be hard given I've eaten badly for much of the week. I am wondering how I can get out of going to WW on Monday, am thinking of feigning diptheria.

I did lose 2.5lb last week bringing the total up to 9.5lb so it's not all bad.

I am feeling more organised than I was, which basically means I've either used some material that has been hanging around for about 28 years, or I have done some crafting, or that I have tidied up. Seeing as you know about the bag and only 1 card has been made then I must have tidied up. Doesn't happen often but I am getting very fed up with clutter and lego. I am sure the kids think lego is a short name for lego as they hear it mostly referred to as 'bloody lego' but I am old and my tolerance is not high. No excuses. Their recklessless mess making drives me crazy, their infringement of Pip's space (his room) and their disregard for their poor aged mothers frayed nerves as they race through the house with swords or balls or knives. Again, I know I am not the only one.

We have had some lovely weekends recently, not least last weekend which was frighteningly civilised and the kids managed not to break anything of note.

When Hubby went to Windsor he actually took some nice 'scrapping' images, I was deeply impressed.

of course, I take better photos...

in other news

I am never making cauliflower and broccoli soup again, it is the rankest of the rank. Even ryvita seems attractive after eating that green goo.

Also in other other news I have moved from the couch to 5k running plan to Bob Glovers running plan as it was kinder and 2 weeks longer (I need kindness and those extra 2 weeks believe me).
Last week I ran:-

  • warm up 5 min
  • run 5 min
  • walk 2 min
  • run 5 min
  • walk 2 min
  • run 5 min
  • ring 999 and ask for oxygen and defib.

I only managed to get to the gym once this week (Hubby said I needed a break - he doesn't understand what sort of break I need!) but ran 5 min/walk 2-3min repeated 3 times without too much discomfort. On Monday (weigh in day Have lost 8lb so far having missed last weeks session dur to choc fountain in Staffs) the plan is to:

  • run 6 min
  • walk 90 sec
  • repeat twice more (total running 18 mins)

this should put me on 3.5k. It's a tall order though but I am finding a strict routine is working better than listening to my 'body' - my body has been lying to me about needing chocolate for 30 years - it's not going to tell me the real deal with running now after 4 weeks now is it?

just be grateful I am not allowed to take my phone in the gym so I can't take a pic of my beetroot face after all that exertion (maybe if the locker room is quiet i will give it a go on Mon)

mobile phone pics

for some insane reason I did not take my camera with me when we went to visit a friend and her children near to Wellington where my mother grew up and where my grandparents are buried. Given the fact that our lives are full, busy and complicated we don't visit there as often as we should but the opportunity arose last weekend and we hot footed it up there.
My phone did a decent enough job of it, and at least I didn't take a trillion shots like I normally do.
Pip decided that the piano was his thing. See him on his little tippytoes trying to reach the keys? just be grateful I didn't video the whole noisefest that went on there!

The little guy can't walk yet - I think it is sheer laziness and the guarantee of a pick up that stops him - his brothers think it's the funniest thing in the world to pick him up and we like picking him up because he kicks his legs like a mini-mule until he's put back down again.

a chocolate fountain was also on offer which was the ultimate in cruelty. I didn't abstain though, I just got on with it and forgot about the consequences. I'd be rubbish at AA.

We visited a local 'play' farm, the weather didn't help nor did our not having coats, but the boys found things to interest them (Munch a tractor, Tiddly an Alpaca and Pip was just in his buggy waiting for someone to notice him)

Munch also learnt how to spin wool, the lady sounded just like my Nan which is probably why I love going up there just to hear them all speak,

We went to RAF Cosford, the jewel in the crown of the RAF museums. The weather was totally pants but the museum was nothing short of amazing and worthy of a much longer and more studious visit.

I made a bag for my friends birthday - inspired by House on Hill Road, it's ok and I think she liked it but I learnt a few things (like have enough thread before you start) and will construct it slightly differently next time. I have got my materials out of the loft and having looked at the old curtains I saved (or rather that Hubby saved) I am glad I did - lots of vintage laura ashley stuff that is going to make spiffing bags.
That's if Pip ever sleeps again (I was up all night with the wakeful little blighter last night and was so tired today that I had all my hair cut off whilst I was delirious with tiredness and thought it was a good idea).

a few more days in and it feels normal

well it feels normal enough not to want to chew the arms of the sofa and drink 18 gallons of full fat milk.

I have a couple of rocky WW days - yesterday I made some chocolate crispies for the kids and got so overwhelmed by the whole melted chocolate thing that I had to lick the spoon and bowl several times. If only this had fixed my craving, but no I had to go the whole hog and actually eat a whole chocolate crispie. Stupidly I decided that foregoing lunch would make up for this transgression (stupid stupid what am I?15?). I then ate Sam's leftover cripsie when he decided that he didn;t like them (he is such a chocolate purist the heathen). I had broccoli soup and ryvita for dinner, everyone else had spag bol but I had donated bits here and there and there ended up being not quite enough for me.

No gym today as I was looking after my friends children, I missed it desparately - I cannot do it at home or early in the morning. I'll see if Hubby will let me out tomorrow to do it.

Scrapped twice - one a scraplift of the brilliant Margaret Scarborough and the other a total disaster! I'm not proud I'll get them scanned in and I'll put them up here. I'm just glad I've used a bit more of the stash mountain that I plan to add to this Sunday!!

Sam had his shirt signed by Leon Barnett at the footpall presentation evening. What a coup!!

Hot Glue

Remind me to not touch glue from a hot glue gun. It blisters and removes skin.

The result was worth it though as it helped to transform a black plastic and very cheap (£3) Ikea chair into a still cheap chair that now looks cheerful!

Week 2 of Getting my Sh*t Together

Yes indeed week 2, weeko two-oh etc etc.

A hard week in a lot of ways but mainly on the 'not being able to eat food constantly' way. I stuck to the plan and the plan paid off, I lost 6lb at WW. I am still a bit stunned by it, stunned by the fact that I did it myself through sheer will power and exercise. The danger now is not to get complacent. Most of what came off was probably water and I need to keep up the game this week. We are off the a bad start but for good reasons (well not good reasons really I could have just put that spoon straight in the washing up), I made Fluffy Grandad a Coffee and Walnut cake today for his birthday so I had to lick the bowl and the spoon. Twice. I had to test the walnut pieces. Several times. This is why I don't make cakes, cake batter is simply Ambrosia - you know the food of the gods - it was too much of a draw and the spoon was simply too close to my mouth to enable a swfit bypass into the washing up. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

Week 3 of the Couch to 5k programme is hard:-

  • 5 min warm up

  • 90sec running, 90 sec walking

  • 3 min runnung, 3 min walking

  • repeat

It's a great programme as it pushes you to just your limit and then lets you walk. Yesterday I could just about do it, I normally jog at 7.2kph (most pple walk faster than that) and I did that bar the last 2 minutes running where my legs felt like jelly, I had to slow to 6.9kph. But I don't feel a failure as I still completed it, albeit slowly. How can it be failure when i am hauling my lardy arse around for 30 minutes? I feel good about it and good about myself doing it - this doesn't happen very often, so pat me on the back when you see me.

Week 4 looks very scarey as I have to run for 5 minutes straight. I may repeat week 3 again if I am not happy on Friday (my last gym session of the week).

Tiddly is in biggo trouble, he logged into an online kids chat room that he is addicted to but as one of his friends. He typed out a swear word and got his friend banned for an hour. This is not good and he had been punished, but it is getting harder and harder to make him care. How do you make them care? he simply could not give a hoot. Maybe he likes the attention? who knows. I know that 8 year old boys are a tricky bunch to fathom and I'm going to have to do it twice more!! Munch is a peanut and actually saught out a maths book to complete yesterday, Tiddly used to run as far as he could from them, but little Munch, the boy who struggles to be understood, who can take a beating from a friend or brother and not moan about it, who struggles with his core words all the time who forgets them as soon as he's seen them, he actually loves numbers. Pip is a little pip, learning from his brothers, getting into all sorts of scarey scrapes considering he's only just 1 and not yet walking - his favourite being getting into places where Mummy can't reach him. Fun game that, usually played near electrical sockets during dinner preparation when I am at my most hassled. Pip loves to be read to, particularly a little book given to us by the Health Visitor which in this early reading book sheme. It's called 'I love it when...' and inside describes a few scenarios with penguin illustrations. Ok it's cute the first time, but not so much the 101st time.

Tiddly was a Lion in his class assembly - he's wearing Munchers t-shirt, much to his chagrin!

Yet another beginning

I have been going to the gym and trying to run on the treadmill whilst maintaining my eating frenzy at home, I came to the unedifying realisation that nothing is going to change unless I take drastic action. Normally I shy away from drastic action as it's all too much like hard work, but I know what has to be done I just have to knuckle down and do it.

So last night I went back to WW, a horrifying weigh in that was treated with tact and discretion and the company of a very good friend made it ok. I hate having to plan food like it was a military operation, but my problem is I eat and eat and eat, I forget what I've had and eat some more. Token efforts down the gym aren't gonna fix this Big Momma, no siree Bob.

Other triggers for action are:-

  • had to take a self portrait for a online photo course I am taking and could not get one decent one, even after copious rearrangements of my form

  • my niece is getting married in 10 weeks, if I want to enjoy myself without feeling like a fat bird in a fat birds dress I have to get my groove on and stop eating so much.

Hubby is supportive but busy with lots of other things, kids couldn't give a monkeys what I look like and I've run out of people to moan to.

So, here's to Day 1 of taking myself in hand.

I also plan to run 5k around our school playing field to raise money for charity, not run fast or anything but run without stopping, obviously it's an organised thing, even I do not have the chutzpah required woblle along on my own.

At the gym today I went onto week 2 of the couch-to-5k plan (I sort of did week 1 during the last 2 weeks):

  • run for 90 seconds walk for 2 minutes for 20 minutes.

Sound easy? not on your life! maybe it's the bulk I am having to run with but I really suffered. The good thing is that it made me realise that I work best working to goals - lose weight for the wedding/run the 5k at school etc etc. It would have been really easy to give up or to take it really easy, but no-one ever said that running was easy, especially at the start and I am now one determined lady.

toast

did you know that if you never clean out your toaster that the mountain of crumbs that collect inside it eventually set alight whilst you are toasting some more of the perpetual toat mountain that goes on in this house?
Don't worry nothing burnt, blew up, incinerated or was harmed in any way but man you should have seen the huge pile of crumbs I shook out of that toaster. I could have fed half of Kenya on that stuff.
lots of unimportant stuff going on here, more of the same old, same old but at least the weather is good. I am doing my nieces wedding invites and as usual have left it to the last minute to get them done. Nothing like a deadline to galvanise the spirit!

But in the time honoured fashion of timewasting i give you some pics......

Back from our Hols

We are back. A little more tanned (or red & freckled in my case), a little more worn out and a little more of a closer family than before. The boys love spending time with their Daddy on holiday, I am usually left to do the cooking, cleaning and bathtimes! It makes me realise how little time he gets to spend with them during the week, so I don't mind too much, it's been a long time since it's been the 'me, me, me' show and I like it that way.

Congratulations to Marja and Kirk on the birth of their very cute little girl, Noemie, on the 11th April, I hope all are doing well. Even though Pip is only 1 (well 14 months in 2 days) I couldn't go back to newborn again, not anymore, not with my advanced years. You forget about how tiny and fragile and needy newborn babies are, how exhausting just exisiting can be but also how thrilling.

We have 381 photos of our trip to Eastbourne, home of the Old Dots, many will be discarded in the dustheap that is the 20,000 photos on my hard drive (that I really need to get an external hard drive for) but I am sure that I have some real peaches.

There is so much washing and stuff to do here I must go do it before the baby gets up and Hubby gets back from wherever he went.

not much happening

oh the wonder of paper crafting! (Roman soldiers costume made from construction paper and foil) - this is all paper honestly!

not a lot has gone on this past week or so, Pip is still waking up at ungodly hours and we've had one or two horrific nights. Tiddly and Munch are fine, getting a bit tired as is usual towards the end of a term.

They both had parents evening last night, Munch did really well and we are very pleased with him, Tiddly seems more disruptive in class and less inclined to try very hard. So much so he now has to sit on his own on his own table so he does not distract the other pupils. I think he's so ashamed of this he got very worried and stressed and woke up with a big headache this morning. He's home now, not sounding very ill at all, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and make him work this afternoon.

Had a crop on Sunday which was productive, got some journal pages finished from Pip's year book and started on the journal pages for this years book for all 3 boys. Plus I started this big football mini album for Tiddly which is basically a football record of his day at Luton Town FC.

Munch went to his first proper birthday party whilst being at big school, he had a blast. He also got to take Mr Dog home for the weekend which was fun, although the responsibility got a bit much at times.

I got two lovely Dolly Beads for Mothers Day, not a suprise as I'd stayed up late on Friday night to order them as they went up on the website, it was like a 'virtual' feeding frenzy - as Jaq was loading them up they were being snapped up. Word to the wise - don't take your time choosing - dash & grab, baby, dash & grab.

His haircut turned him into a mad monster
His haircut always takes the longest as he has so much bloody hair!

That is not me cutting their hair. Me, scissors and small boys are not a good combination!

I have an hour to tidy up

so why am i on here?

I have been goofing off for a whole hour, I am an expert in the field of goofing off or as we Brits like to say 'an expert slacker' - it's a field that I perfected whilst working and have successfully carried it over into my non-working life. I could represent my country in it and I am training my oldest son to be an expert as well (he goofs off on Club Penguin and Neopets, whilst I am a successfull craft website slacker).

I now have these (unused but in-waiting)

and I have some of these babies too as an early mothers day present (plus one is a bday pressie for a friend), they look so pretty I could not resist forcing Hubby into buying them from here.

must go scrape some dirt from places downstairs so it looks like i have been busy at some point today :)

2 Layout already, I'm on a roll

It's March and I have already done 2 layouts. Not groundbreaking stuff admittedly, but a step up for me. The things I have managed to avoid whilst doing aforementioned LO's are tons of housework, hoovering and sorting - I think I have my priorities just bang on the nail.
Baby is protesting mightily about being put to bed so I must go and tell him the order of things -

blog first, baby soothing later.

the pursuit of stash

I went to Stamperama this weekend with my friend Ruth, although it catered very much to the cardmakers & stampers of this world there was more than enough there to keep me interested.

I bought what i considered to be a few small purchases but I didn't come home with much change from £40!
In the pic I have also included 3 of the fontwerks notables stamps from Scrapgal and the Purple Onion stamps from Self-Addressed.

Lego fever returns to this house, we are having major lego building sessions at the moment, wi

th the insistence that photos be taken, all because of my scraplift LO - Sam wants 'in' on a Lego themed LO too so I will have to see what I can come up with. (these pics were taken in the morning, early in the morning, hence Munchies tired looking face - he just doesn't do mornings that kid). If you have boys you should let them go onto the Lego.com site to play - it's a great great thing :)

We're Heading for a Crafty Weekend

We collect milk bottles - how cool are we? Milko hates us when we put 10 bottles out all at once, so much so that she only takes 6 of them and leaves the others to their peril on our doorstep. She only comes every other day so they are kicking around for a while, gives them a bit of street experience though, which is always a useful thing to have living where we live. My word you can see empty milk bottles, washing up liquid and cans of beer & beans on the window sill - what is this student digs?????

Church accounts signed and out of here, hurrah! It's a right royal pain, and I am not even a qualified auditor, hell I'm a qualified nothing (half qualified insane but that's nothing to brag about is it?).

Still have a few projects on the go, and as the Church Treasurer was here this morning the house is tidy and relatively clean (well clean has so many meanings don't you think?), I made him wait for half an hour before coming around because the house was such a tip, I said to him when he came 'there is no way I am going to let you see me living in a tip' even thought that is how I live most of my life. 3 boys do not make for a tidy house.

Big consternation this morning in the house when 'meme' was lost, 'meme' being the toy of choice and weapon of mass destruction both at the same time, I do so love the efficiency of that whole deal. 'Meme' could take your eye out at 20 paces and I do believe that Pip's eye was very nearly out on several occasions whilst he was unguarded when i was making the tea. 'Meme' is an elastic band (red) and a large paper clip (stripy) made for Sam by his school friend, said schoolfriend will be throttled next time I see him.

You will also be pleased to note, dear reader, that Pip slept the whole night through last night. Rather, I slept the whole night through. What a breakthrough. Now I have spent the whole day with a nonspecific headache, maybe it's Sky+ at 2am withdrawal symptoms.

I have a Sunday School project to finish (well start & finish) which will consist of paper flowers/straws & plant pots plus a zillion mini albums to make and minipics to print. If Pip sleeps tonight I will do some of them then.

Stamperama is on Sunday at Stevenage, I may go and window shop as I have overspent March already with purchases and prospective purchases but the odd StazOn may slip into my bag (ink pad of choice if only for the aroma).

Pip being pantsless by the washing machine door - his version of heaven.
